Founding Engineer
- Type: Full-time (part-time considered)
- Experience Level: Mid to Staff
- Compensation: Negotiable, includes equity and benefits
Hi there —
We're Lab24, and we're building the next generation of AI-native tools. Our first product is a contextual agent for project management that actually understands your work and helps get things done.
We care deeply about great UX, thoughtful systems, and solving the right problems—not just building for the sake of it. We're still early, which means you'd be joining the founding team and working directly with us to shape both the product and the culture from the ground up.
What we're looking for
We're looking for an engineer who's hands-on, thoughtful, and not afraid to challenge ideas or propose new ones. Someone who's just as comfortable thinking about architecture as they are about pixel-perfect front-end work. You should care about how things are built and how they feel to use.
You don't need a traditional background or a fancy degree—just real experience, a high bar for quality, and a strong sense of ownership.
Things you should be good at
- Building with TypeScript across the stack
- Working with both frontend and backend systems
- Familiarity with our stack or similar: Next.js, Drizzle, Hono, Redis, Postgres
- Handling complex workflows or dynamic systems with lots of moving parts
- Designing and managing data systems: SQL, key-value stores like Redis, and ideally graph databases
- Experience or curiosity working with vector databases (e.g. for retrieval tasks)
- Paying close attention to front-end details, especially when implementing design systems
- Communicating clearly in both real-time and async settings
- Using tools that help you move fast—whether that's AI, your editor, or your own workflow setup
Bonus experience
Not required, but nice to have:
- Integrating with multiple external APIs or services
- Working with data lakes or ETL pipelines
- Experience with React Native or Tauri
- Comfortable working with Python and/or Rust
- Familiarity with LLM systems (RAG pipelines, embeddings, agent-based architectures)
What we don't care about
We don't care where you went to school, what degree you have, or if you even have one. We care about how you think, how you work, and whether you're excited to help build something ambitious from the beginning.
How to apply
Please include:
- Your résumé
- A portfolio — this could be a personal site, GitHub profile, or any place that gives us a window into your work. Even if it's a bit outdated, we'd still love to see it.
If you're someone who thrives on building thoughtfully and wants to be part of a team that cares a lot about the details, we'd love to hear from you.
